Data That Stays on Your Device
Helm uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls / DeviceActivity APIs) and macOS system features to block apps and manage focus sessions. All of this data is processed and stored locally on your Mac:
- App blocking preferences and schedules
- Session history (start times, duration, mode)
- Custom app groups and block lists
- Break and lifeline usage
We do not have access to this data. Apple's Screen Time API is designed so that app usage information never leaves your device.
Data We Collect
Account Information
If you create an account or purchase a subscription, we collect:
- Email address
- Payment information (processed by Apple or our payment provider — we do not store credit card numbers)
This information is used to manage your subscription and provide customer support.
Anonymous Analytics (Opt-In)
We may collect anonymized, aggregate usage data to improve Helm:
- App opens and session counts (not content)
- Feature usage patterns (e.g., which session modes are popular)
- Crash reports and diagnostics
This data cannot be used to identify you. You can opt out of analytics in the app settings.
What We Do NOT Collect
- Which apps you block or use
- Your browsing history
- Your screen time statistics
- Content of any kind from your device
- Location data
- Contacts or personal files
How We Use Your Data
We use the limited data we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the App
- Process subscriptions and payments
- Send important service updates (e.g., changes to terms, security notices)
- Improve the App based on anonymized usage patterns
- Respond to customer support requests
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
Helm may integrate with the following third-party services:
- Apple (Screen Time API / Family Controls): Processes app blocking locally on your device per Apple's privacy framework.
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription status. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Stripe: Processes payments for direct purchases. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect the limited data we do handle. Since the vast majority of Helm's data never leaves your device, your information is protected by macOS's built-in security features including FileVault encryption and the Secure Enclave.
Children's Privacy
Helm is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us so we can delete it.
Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
- On-device data: Controlled entirely by you. Uninstalling Helm removes all local data.
- Analytics data: Anonymized and aggregated; cannot be traced back to you.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Delete your account and associated data
- Opt out of analytics collection
- Export your data upon request
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@bestselfco.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, through in-app notification or email.
